Vision Collector Records hit number five in their catalogue with a debut record on the label from fellow Dubliner Breen. After becoming involved in the ever changing Vision Collector parties and setting up the newly formed internet station Dublin Digital Radio (DDR), Breen delivers a 12” spanning four tracks. On the A side, ‘Birds Of Prey’ breaks us in with haunting atmospherics and dark jungle sounds before falling into an unforgiving banger driven by crisp percussion and deep bass. After briefly coming up for air we are taken straight back to a darkened room. Eyes closed for this one. Next up is A2 title track ‘You & Me Boy’ led by a hypnotic vocal sample over crunchy drums and an unrelenting rhythm. As the intensity increases new percussive elements are slid in, taking us further inside. On the flip, ‘Grace & Malone’ rides an arpeggio alongside dark brooding synths and shuffling hats, teasing out the energy as the track reaches climax. To close the record out, Breen delivers a ten minute odyssey using emotive synths, squelchy atmospherics and a rolling synth line. A huge intro takes us out to sea and back before plunging into deeper territory with big drums and machine bleeps. In the end we are left with hopeful soundscapes fading us out and seeing us off.
