orphan swords: license to desire/risk in a new age

License to Desire/Risk in a New Age is a limited CD release compiling both Orphan Swords EPs for Desire: Risk in a New Age, from 2014, and License to Desire, to be released following this CD. Brussels-based Orphan Swords is a duo between Yannick Franck aka Räum, sound experimentalist and founder of Idiosyncratics Records, and Maze, producer and Bozar Electronic Arts Festival curator. Previously described as "industrial-slanted techno" by XLR8R and "new school industrial" by The Quietus, Orphan Swords' music results from the collision between Räum and Maze's widely different influences, including techno, noise, and coldwave. The portion of this release that corresponds to License to Desire is probably their most powerful material so far, concentrating on EBM, minimal techno gristle, and industrial electronics. These tracks clearly relate to previous tracks such as 2013's "Caim," which XLR8R described as "the grinding sounds and whirling blasts of white noise position the track directly in the realm of acts like Sandwell District and Richie Hawtin's digressive and hypnotizing Plastikman moniker." Features an appearance from Ike Yard.
