New from London based upstart Diagonal comes a four tracker of tough, skeletal rhythms from label boss Powell. Revelling in mechanical hooks, cold, brittle percussion and unfamiliar time signatures, Powell pursues new modes of dancefloor dread but is unashamedly indebted to the past to: (amongst others) the propulsive funk of Suicide, the linear surge of Nitzer Ebb and the uncompromising force of Mika Vainio. No Wave New York remains more of an inspiration than bass-heavy London, as does the vision and encouragement of friend and Blackest Ever Black owner, Kiran Sande. Diagonal would like to thank Downwards boss Karl O’Connor [Regis] for his love and support and, of course, for the bleak and brilliant rework he has contributed to this first release. Thank you Karl.
